Hemant-Lacoanet's journey from Paris to India
More than a decade back designer duo Hemant Sagar and Didier Lecoanet moved from the comforts of Paris with a flagship store in the heart of the aristocratic Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, (considered the Paris Mecca of luxury fashion and Haute Couture) to New Delhi. With this move they also forayed into ready to wear, making a firm name in the Indian fashion market.
While there is a process of learning there is also a need of sharing that learnt knowledge to those who seek it. At a much talked about exhibition at the Bikaner House in New Delhi, the designers put up an amazing showcase of their journey in the fashion industry titled ‘Paris, New Delhi: From Haute Couture to the Technologies of Elegance’. It was a way of sharing their knowledge, of the rich experiences that they they had garnered in their fascinating journey of fashionable world. Through this unique exhibition, the designers aim to spread awareness about the need to invest in research and design that can be instrumental in placing India on the map for Global Fashion.
To the students of fashion and fashionistas it showed the amount of serious research that gets into the constructing of one design in terms of fabric, surface ornamentation, texture, cuts and colour that makes it one of kind.
More than over 70-80 creations; some made in Paris (1984-2000) and the other half at their Gurgaon Atelier (2000-2017) were showcased over an evening packed with the city's fashionistas, media and fashion designer friends, piano recital and nibbles by @andaaz of Hyatt Aerocity. “There is a sense of fashion nostalgia, a celebration of artisanal excellence, an ode to our labour of love that we hope to evoke. We see a promise of a pragmatic future that beholds Indian fashion,” added Hemant Sagar and Didier Lecoanet.
The guests also got to see a special edit of the GENES Lecoanet Hemant’s ready to wear label that included comfortable wear in organic cottons in whites and other colours just perfect for the peaking summer ahead.
