Silverware that speaks

Luxe Point India gets the privilege to take a tour of Chordia's- the multifaceted brand known to make exquisite handcrafted silverware with a distinct Indian touch. Read on as Mahima Agarwal shares some excerpts from her visit:

Jaipur is a city that is full of hidden treasures and I don't fail to discover something marvellous everytime I visit the beautiful pink city. This time it was the breathtaking silver artefacts created and housed by Chordia's.

The long yet comfortable car journey to Jaipur in itself is a visual pleasure. It is filled with green fields, colourful truck accessories lining up the streets and the dhabas that serve delicious North Indian cuisine.  I headed straight to the Chordia's workshop in the heart of city.

The workshop cum office houses the brand's beautiful sample as well as made to order pieces. My attention is drawn to the silver furniture that is an amalgamation of beauty, art and practicality. The glistening mother of pearl table tops, the intricately carved sofas and charming vintage dressers- each piece is a beauty that can only be experienced.

The standard procedure of creating these masterpieces involves time, money and hardwork beyond imagination. It is a business that does not thrive on money, but solely and purely on the love for preserving the craftsmanship that is very typical to Jaipur.

Originally pioneers in the Gem and Jewellery industry, Chordia’s forayed into silver smithing with the sole intention of reviving and preserving the natural god gifted talent of the kaarigars that is slowly diminishing with time, owing to the extensive use of machinery. The ancestral business is currently looked after by  Avant Chordia and Anant Chordia, partners and scions of the reputed family of Jewellers.

The brand already has an impressive clientele of some of the most recognizable names of India and the world.  They aim at offering the world the most artistic and intricate bespoke silverware that is a joy to own and look at. I was mesmerized the moment we entered their quaint workshop where each piece has a history to tell, The brothers played host and narrated the stories behind the making of each silver product. The brand treats Silver as a piece of art, hand-crafted and infused with heritage design inspired from Chandi Ki Taksaal; one of the original 36 Kaarkhaanas set up by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II.

The workshop also houses a small but beautiful library filled with books on Indian art, culture and history handpicked lovingly by Anant. It is his passion towards art and history that sets Chordia's silverware apart from others. After touring us through the workshop, he played the perfect host and took us for a wonderful dinner at Jaipur's Rambagh Palace in its famed Italian restaurant Steam, giving the perfect ending to the beautiful day.

Catering to globally acclaimed industrialists, European and Indian royalty and discerning collectors, Chordia's Silverware can be viewed by appointment at their flagship boutique showroom in Jaipur.
