Experience Ayurvedic goodness
Surrender yourself to the nature and experience the healing effects of Ayurveda. We did just that and here, we share all about our relaxing stay at Kairali Ayurvedic Village, Palakkad, Kerala:
The menu of the day is written on the small board at the entrance of the restaurant and you instantly realise its vegetarian. The familiar south Indian cuisine- appam, wheat dosa, avial, sambhar- sounds fresh and inviting especially since you have just had a refreshing Ayurveda massage at their healing centre.
The Kairali Ayurvedic Village, situated at Palakkad, Kerala is all about fresh vegetarian food sourced from the local villagers and herbs picked up fresh from their own garden. But more than that, it’s about healing derived from the ancient practices of sages and hermits and about a family of doctors who have practised the Ayurveda to heal.
After the success of their first Kairali Healing Centre in Mehrauli, Delhi, K.V Ramesh and Gita Ramesh created the Palakkad centre that is now visited by people from all over the world and mainly from Germany. Here it’s quite likely that you will probably be talking about Ayurveda and its healing properties to a German wellness addict enjoying the steam after an abhyangam massage next to you. You might also find yourself flipping a few German magazines while waiting for the good doctor at the reception’s lounge area. During our team visit there we had the pleasure of speaking to well known German actor and his wife who are their regular guests.
What makes it so popular is the fact that it is purely an Ayurvedic centre imparting the science of the ancient Ayurveda. There are Ayurveda trained therapists, doctors and a very active department of Ayurvedic medicines- researched and manufactured under the watchful eye of the Ramesh family.
The beautiful luxury villas here are based on the ancient edicts of vaastu sashtra, the Indian version of Feng Shui as outlined in the ancient scripture. Among the beautiful coconut trees, a man made stream, a garden that grows all the required herbs and medicinal plants for Kairali's medicine department, the guests can relax in the quiet of the nature.
While the itinerary can be made according to the need or the medicinal requirement of the guest, here the day will begin with complimentary yoga classes, which is optional. We suggest it is the best way to start the day at the healing centre. Yoga is done in the open area early morning with the scent of beautiful flowers and the chirping of the birds. The expert instructor will gently take you through the one hour session as per the flexibility of your body.
Begin your day with a fresh glass of tender coconut water after your yoga session or with a glass of boiled herb water always served at the restaurant. Soon after it is breakfast and time for the relaxing treatments.
The healing centre here has the entire range of Ayurvedic treatments prescribed by the ancient science scriptures. Also there are a whole lot of packages that you could look into such as the Panchakarma, weight loss, detox, bronchial diseases, hypertension, arthritis and spondylities, facial paralysis, nervous disability, de-addiction and rehabilitation treatments among others. As suggested by the doctors, treatments need more than a week so it’s advisable to customise the stay for better results.
Among the other interesting things you could do is make an appointment with a highly regarded in house astrologer. Keep your birth date and time ready that will be required when you visit him.
You can end your day with an hour long soul pleasing meditation session that begins with the wonderful chanting by the guide.
Silence.. a tiny glow of the light..soft hymns..silence.. and the wonderful chanting again..ebbing away slowly...silence ..and the beautiful feeling of peace.
